Family Advocacy & Support

A diagnosis changes everything. You don't have to figure out what comes next on your own.

What We Offer

What Family Advocacy Actually Does

Family advocacy at Mitchell's Place is more than guidance. It's a consistent relationship with someone who knows your child's story, understands the systems you're navigating, and stays with you as your needs change. The result is a family that feels informed, supported, and ready to advocate.

  • One advocate who knows your child's full care plan

  • Help navigating insurance, funding, and school systems

  • Ongoing support as your family's needs change

You're Not Alone in This

Raising a child with autism comes with questions no handbook fully answers. Our caregiver support groups give families a place to ask those questions, hear from others walking the same road, and realize they are not as alone as they sometimes feel. Come as you are.

Navigating the School System With You

School systems can be hard to navigate, especially when you're still learning what your child needs. Our advocates help you prepare for IEP meetings, understand your rights, and hold schools accountable for the services your child is owed.

  • IEP Preparation

We help you review goals, ask the right questions, and walk into every meeting ready.

  • Transition Planning

Support for moving from early intervention into school and on into adulthood.

Insurance & Systems

Insurance, Benefits & Systems

Insurance paperwork, therapy authorizations, and system navigation are some of the most exhausting parts of raising a child with autism. Our family advocates help you cut through it, so more of your energy goes toward your child and less toward figuring out who to call next.

Resources to Help Every Step of the Way

Families also gain access to a library of tools, worksheets, and guides covering everything from insurance navigation to IEP preparation. These resources are designed to give parents a foundation between advocacy sessions, so the support doesn't stop when the appointment ends. Knowledge builds confidence. And confident parents are some of the most powerful advocates their children will ever have.

  • Our son began Mitchell’s Place in fall of 2021, he started speech and occupational therapy. He began ABA therapy last November in 2022. We are absolutely amazed at the progress and accomplishments he has made and continues to surprise us every week. We have used the words “life changing” because it is absolutely the truth. We are so grateful for all the amazing therapist and staff at Mitchell’s Place. Our son is making his way, and they are providing him with all the tools he needs to succeed.

  • There’s a quote I think describes my feelings about Mitchell’s Place. “As one person I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person”. The diagnosis of Autism threw a challenge to our family to find the best services available for my son Mitchell. Realizing the options were limited, we decided not only to help our son but to help other families as well by opening Mitchell’s Place in 2005. The outcomes speak for themselves and we are proud to be a part of the Mitchell’s Place Family.
