Our Impact
Where Potential Becomes Progress, Every Single Day
Every milestone here is real. A child speaks their first word. A family finds their footing. A future opens up that once felt out of reach. This is what happens when integrated care, skilled therapists, and a community that refuses to give up on any child work together.
By the Numbers
Two Decades of Real Results
For over 20 years, Mitchell's Place has been the place families in Birmingham turn to when they need real answers and a clear path forward. These numbers represent children who found their voice, built independence, and reached milestones their families once feared were impossible.

Children Find Their Voice
For many families, communication is the first and most urgent goal. At Mitchell's Place, speech therapy works alongside ABA and occupational therapy so progress in one area reinforces progress in another. Children who arrived without words leave with language, and the confidence to use it.
Support When Families Need It Most
The Parent Relief Fund helps families facing financial hardship continue their child's care without interruption. When a family hits a difficult stretch, their child's progress doesn't have to stop. The fund exists to keep kids in the program during the moments that matter most.
Early Learning That Prepares Children
The inclusive preschool at Mitchell's Place gives children with autism the opportunity to learn and grow alongside their peers. The classroom is built around each child's therapy goals, so the skills they build in sessions carry directly into daily learning.
A Network That Reaches Further
Mitchell's Place works alongside school systems, pediatric practices, and community organizations to identify children who need support and connect families to care earlier. These partnerships extend the reach of coordinated services to more families across the region.
Our History
Mitchell's Place opened its doors over 20 years ago with a straightforward belief: children with autism deserve more than a fragmented system. So Allen and Nancy Meisler built something different. One place, one coordinated plan, and a community that grows stronger with every family who walks through our doors. In 2005, the lack of services and autism treatment options for their son, Mitchell led them on a journey to creating Mitchell’s Place which has now served over 4,000 families throughout the Southeastern United States.
Each day since, our team has worked to meet the growing need for specialized services for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and their families, across the greater Birmingham area and beyond.
